This song is an anthem to our favorite yearly event, The Oregon Country Fair. It was started back in the late sixties and is still going strong entertaining over 40,000 people a day over the weekend. We believe that this song truly captures the spirit of this human celebration of life so perhaps, if you can't get to the fair yourself, we can take you there in your mind.

    Story Behind the Song
There are so many tales to tell....

    Lyrics
Well I went down to a country fair
there were no cowboys just hippies there
just made stand my fuzzy hair
and I felt my red-neck sweat

    Hippies all just smokin' grass
made me wanna kick some ass
    give one a beatin'
    I new he'd never ferget

And I... stepped out of my truck and grabbed my hat

An' I walked up to the nearest one
said let me kick yer teeth in son
An' he looked up at me with a goofy grin... said c'mon in

Well just as I pulled up my sleeves
an angel walked right up to me
    tapped me with her wand
    and left a cookie

    Munching as I strolled along
it felt as though my soul was drawn
    into a dusty gypsy throng
and I picked up the beat

I... I picked up the beat

Well my feet were flyin' an' sakes alive
I shook 'em on down into over-drive
I felt so light I thought that I could fly
    Man, I was high

Before the day had turned to eve
I ate a dose and smoked some weed
    I kicked off my boots
    and bought a tie-dye

It felt as though my life had changed
    blown apart and re-arranged
    I felt like an angel
and saw faces in the sky

    I... I thought I'd died

But I looked around and everyone's
smile was shining like the sun
I realised I was not alone
    Mamma I'd come home!

When I went back to Ma and Pa
and told them of the things I saw
    they just thought that
    I'd plum lost my mind

I told them as I packed my bags
    I think this ol' life's a drag
I'm goin' back to the place
    where people treat me kind

I... I'm leavin' my past behind

Well my eyes grew red and I grew my hair
now I live for the Country Fair
no place in the world I'd rather be
    and now I'm free

    Oh yes I'm free
    Good God I'm free
    Lordy lawd free
