Story Behind the Song
It was a very hot afternoon in July at my upstairs studio in Toronto where me and four friends were having one of our 'recording parties'. We were supposed to work on another tune, but I was so hot and agitated I decided to write some quick lyrics and asked my friend Brian to play a few measures of drums at a specified tempo. He did one take, I added two acoustic guitar tracks and then recorded my vocals with a PZM(tm) mic againsta a wall. I would point my finger every time the word 'sucks' was said and everyone else in the room shouted 'sucks' with me. The whole song took 48 minutes to write, record and mix. My 12 track died a couple of weeks later and that's the only mix in existence. It summed up how I felt that day.
Lyrics
i hate winter, winter sucks
i hate bank line-ups, they suck
i hate cold hamburgers, they really suck
i hate television, it sucks
(chorus)
i hate pushy people when i'm standing in line
i hate bad commercials, they're on all the time
i hate doing housework, it sucks
and doing dishes, it sucks
holes in my sock really suck
phoning the blue pages...sucks
repeat chorus
being really broke, it sucks
i hate the phone company, they suck
i can't stand mediocrity, it sucks
i hate arguing, it sucks
chorus
i hate whenever i'm on the subway and somebody's standing beside me and his breath reeks like a thousand dead rats and he just can't help but breathe his stinkin', mutant breath in my face, it sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks, it sucks, sucks, everything sucks..
most things suck
