Story Behind the Song
Written in 1984. Somewhere between typical rock'n'roll angst and Sufi mysticism. This was the most difficult song to record of this CD. To be honest, we very nearly scrapped it altogether. It originally had Ray King on congas. There was a rhythm problem. We finally decided the rhythm guitar and congas were sloppy and the drums and bass were okay. I redid the rhythm guitar, and Kirk added a dhumbek track at my request. Ray had quit the band by then and we wound up deleting his congas. This is the only song that does not include Ray King.
Lyrics
I know what I need is you
And all I can do is think about you
What more can I say
Tomorrow or yesterday
I know, know what I need
What I need is you
I wanna lay down my life for you
I figure it's the least that I can do
Let me in
Wash me in the waters of redemption
Take me in
Cleanse me of the soil of contention
Wallace: vocals, guitar, punghi. Dan: bass. Kirk: drums, dhumbek.
