Story Behind the Song
Wanted to write a love song about a man who fantasizes about another woman, and how things might turn out if he got his wish. Turned into something slightly different.
Lyrics
A Valentine's Song
We met a while back, at a club, the Black Cat
You were slinky, and sultry, and someone I'd like to hold
[Our] eyes met 'cross the bar, felt I was hit by a car
I was stricken, and knocked down, my heart was on the block and sold
So we danced all night your dress shone like a light
We were blinded, spinning freely, in love we were firmly rolled
But then you saw my ring, and it was over
It's too bad we hadn't met sooner
You slapped my face and walked away,
Oh my dear, Happy Valentines Day.
I saw you again, standing in the rain
You were soaking, no umbrella, a wet dream of mine come back
I approached you right then, and said "We meet again"
In confusion, you thought that I, was someone else named Mack
We got in a cab, there was no time for gab
We were molten, and writhing, and soon were in the sack
But again you saw my ring, and it was over
It's too bad we hadn't met sooner
You slapped my face and hit the beday, (spelling?)
Oh my love, Happy Valentines Day.
So here we are again, at a club with our friends
You are dancing, and drinking, and having a good time
Quite by accident (and it's not what I meant)
My wedding ring, slips off, into my glass of vodka and lime
So we bump through the night, and make love till it's light
And we wake up, very thirtsy, and we share a jug of wine
Then I think, where's my ring? and I remember
It's a good thing I swallowed it before leaving
I stop outside the john and say
Finally, Happy Valentines Day.
