There is no genre on this site where this song belongs. If you have any ideas, let me know. It was written on acoustic guitar with a very melodic vocal line, about an octave higher than it was recorded. Once I laid the sequence to tape, I had very little time to finish the song, and a serious cold. So I did my best Leonard Cohen impression. When I came back to the studio the following day to mix it, I thought I'd try it once in a falsetto. That ended up being the harmony line.

    Story Behind the Song
I was writing a short film called "glimmer." (That's where the image is from.) The main character is dealing with addictions to alcohol, to a girl, and a very reclusive lifestyle. I needed a very moody song. The lyrics were right. But my usual acoustic approach to instrumentation was not. I decided to go with something completely electronic. Music that is very percussive. And percussion that is almost musical. In hindsight, I'm sure glad I had a cold when I did the vocals. After two or three takes, hacking my way through the melody, I decided to do something almost spoken. It works perfectly over the images of the suicidal character in "glimmer," hitting rock bottom.

    Lyrics
I guess I'm kind of going crazy here
    Follow me to nowhere
    Listen what I see
    I detail trash
    I feed the pain
    Strung out on good intentions
Hung up on bells and frames

    I'm the pie-eyed piper
    Follow me
    I lead in question
    Doubt me
    Front and center
    A to B
    Falling fast
    Blind
    Catch up
    Catch me

I guess there must have been a ghost in here
    Talking in my head
    Lights
    Floodlights
    Drown or swim
    Dance your secret
    Gene Kelly Morse
I love the way they built you
    Angel
    Lion
    Fire
    And voice

    Little darling
    Sing feathers and flames
    My time's over
    Take the reigns

    Little darling
    Come with me
    I'm the pie-eyed piper
    Follow me
    Little darling
    Come with me
    Little darling
    Rescue me

    Rescue me
    Little darling
