Story Behind the Song
Have you ever heard modern composers try to write new baroque music? I've always thought they did a very poor job. It's as if they thought writing silly, prancy figures made it "baroque." In this piece I wanted to create something with lively motives, strong bass lines and authentic counterpoint. Something resembling the style of Vivaldi, Lully, or Rameau.
This concerto was recorded using a Casio CZ-101 to to overdub on four-track tape. Although the strings are obviously synthesized, all the parts were written as if intended for real instruments in live performance. Most of the sections were recorded in step-time in a MIDI sequencer. The Cadenza near the end was improvised "live" then edited into the maste sequence.
