Story Behind the Song
The band had been coming up with different riffs and song fragments that we liked a lot but for years never got around to using in a complete song. When we tinkered with the idea of stringing some of them together, we realized that we had the makings of a great instrumental jam -- Dumptruck is the final result. Interesting trivia: the bass part in the middle of the song dates back to '93 or '94, and was originally called "Into the Grotto," one of the song's rhythms is based on the rhythm of train wheels on a track near our downtown warehouse rehearsal space, and portions near the end of the song were inspired in part by Rush's "La Villa Strangiato."
