Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song back in 1988, when I thought I was going through the worst heartache I thought I'd ever experience.
I was living in New Jersey at the time, and I was not yet associated with anyone musically. I'd like to thank Fossil Ridge, and Duane Griffith of On Air Music for making the dream come true of hearing my music on the radio.
Lyrics
It was the turn of ninety seven when I met her,
It was not quite ninety eight and she was gone.
Lord I loved the time we spent together, even thought it never lasted very long.
I hoped and dreamed that someday we'd be married,
When slowly all my dreams fell apart,
Now she's walking lifes highway in the arms of another man,
And Im walking the Longest Mile with a broken heart.
chorus- Longest Mile, so sad and lonely,
Sometimes it seems like that walk, will never end
Just when you think the hurtings over, it's just your heartache, coming around the bend.
spoken- "You've got to keep moving when you're walking that longest mile, cuz if you stop you start to think and sure as hell the tears are gonna fall, but I know someday I'm gonna find a lady and she's gonna love me so much it'll make it all worth while."
chorus-
Well that longest mile is slow and painful, with every turn there's another hill to climb.
The only thing that keeps me going, is that at the end there's another love to find.
