Story Behind the Song
Lint in My Pockets was the first song the LP Outsiders ever performed together. It was written in the fall of 1995 and has been recorded numerous times. The latest version (as heard here) is on the band's newest album, All Purpose Crackers, as well as being featured on the Three to Tango motion picture soundtrack.
Lyrics
I aint got no money
Verse1: I see ya got lint in your pockets dont know what to do,
Dont know how to be a good dad your dad wasnt there for you.
So you got the government check on the first that should feed you,
But you owe the brother man for the crack that he lends you.
You reach into your pocket all you pull out is lint, and,
Youre disappointed cuz there aint no bills in your hand.
The only paper in your pocket says inspected by 52,
Ya never go to church, think that theyll take your money too.
What to do, sittin on the porch sippin a forty,
The last thing ya bought before ya ran out of money.
Everybody knows you got no job and no wife,
But you got a 2-year-old son and dont take no part in his life.
Your life begins to crumble and ya gotta hide,
And since ya dont want to work ya gotta steal to survive.
Bumped into ya round the way the other day,
Asked why you were down and this is all you had to say
Chorus: I got lint in my pockets (what),
Lint in my pockets (thats where),
Cuz I got lint in my pockets.
I aint got no money
Verse2: I aint got no money, but the moneys on my mind.
It seems kinda funny but the honey aint hard to find.
Cuz every first day of the month I gotta run up to my check.
I get my cash to last me to the house up on my left.
Now place your bet, Im yet to make it through another day,
Without shall I say mayhem on my back and in the way.
I never can sever from endeavors that ride,
Whether Im from the coast, the north, the west, or south side.
I look into my pockets and I notice nothin there,
I cant afford the Lord because I aint got love to share.
I spent all my dough upon the things up in my pipe,
And now I got the lint to prove the purpose of my life.
Chant: Lint, Lint, I got it
