The style is along the lines of hard rock/heavy metal, but I can't really think of a band to compare it to. There is a long guitar-only intro that runs about a minute and a half before the rest of the instruments come in and the vocals start.
Credits: written and recorded by Will Willis c.1996

    Story Behind the Song
I wrote the music to this song for a project I did for a senior level history class in the fall of 1993. The class was a research/presentation class and I parted with tradition to write and record a "theme album" covering the World War II Battle of Midway in the South Pacific. Originally the lyrics were about the American perspective of WWII and the importance of maintaining a hold on Midway. I really liked the music to several of those Midway songs and over the last few years I've re-recorded the music with new lyrics. This song was recorded in a little house I was renting in Commerce, Texas in January 1995. The lyrics to "Storming the Heavens" come from when most of the lyrics I was writing around that time had a strong psychological theme. I think a read of the lyrics gives a pretty good idea of what the song is about

    Lyrics
    Storming the Heavens

    verse1
Silence hides the pain that lies behind those eyes
Youthful innocence tarnished into hardened adolescence
Forgotten souls drift aimlessly with the change of seasons
Timeless agony born in an act of treason
Cutting your losses by cutting your ties
In candle lit isolation your life cries

    chorus
Down, and now you've bottomed out
You feel there's only one way to be set free
Running through your veins is ice, but you better think twice
It's not yet your time to storm the heavens

    verse2
Well versed in hatred, conspiracy theories
You weave your shadows to protect from conjured demons
Never let anyone see who lies behind those eyes
Fading slowly, a hallow gaze aimed on darkened skies
    False constructs support neuroses
As you cast hallow fortunes to the seas

    chorus

    bridge
Warm spring winds blow out winter's cold
To bring back memories of a time since forgotten
Light penetrates the veil, heat melts the icy shell
Once you've finally faced and conquered you fears
Realization comes, there's no rush for the pearly gates

    solo
    verse1
    chorus
