    Story Behind the Song
This song is loosely based on a homeless man we knew from the old neighborhood. As kids we'd talk to him and try to get his story and he would show us cool stuff he found in the alleys. We dubbed him the "lonely guy" and it seemed his full employment was walking up and down 26th Street (Chicago) the main drag in our neighborhood. In later years when writing this song it occurred to us that this guy could have been anybody or more correctly the situation in which he found himself could happen to anybody (Even You!) either by happenstance or circumstance.

    Lyrics
    I Wonder
(Words and Music by Sergio Escobedo)
    Sitting by the lake
    Waiting for my girl
When I saw this man walking towards me

    Dragging his poor feet
    Holding in his hands
    An old shopping bad
    Seemed all that he had

    Chorus:
Oh I wonder, how I wonder
Once was so young, now so very old
Oh I wonder, how I wonder
Once with a future now history

    Looks so tired
    Seemed so hungry
    Must've had a home
    Now it's anywhere

    Once had a future
    Maybe once a life
    Now in a world
A world of his very own

    Chorus

    Seemed to not care
    Where he would go
    Will never find a friend
    Till the very end

    Once had a mother
    Maybe once a dad
    Now he's alone
    Just so very sad

    Chorus
