Pushcart nominated poem. Winner of the Allen Jay Freedman Poetry Prize. Widely published. Blah blah blah. Stant's very own personal favorite. The sound effects are... unusual. For Ellyn Maybe. DISCLAIMER: please note, this is an extremely lo-fi recording. Although no recording equipment was actually harmed during production, those of you with low hiss tolerance have been warned. And, hey, isn't lo-fi supposed to be cool, now? END OF DISCLAIMER. |

Story Behind the Song
First published in Convergence: Journal of the Finalists for the Allen Jay Freedman Poetry Prize (Dance of the Iguana Press). Written in a McDonald's parking lot in Ventura one blustery afternoon, the day after a trip to the zoo. As it's an unrequited love story of sorts, it's only fitting that it be dedicated to Ellyn Maybe. I once tried out an edited three minute version at a slam in Albuquerque, but Greg Stant (of Spokenwar.com) who was down from Denver threatened to beat me half senseless if I ever did that again. So here's the whole dang thing. Also: Marcia Cohee, I still think the Robert Wynnes poem was better. but thank you.
