Story Behind the Song
The song was inspired by the many teenage suicides that occured in NJ in the mid-80's by high school students. The lyrics are mild by today's standard - and were rejected as being to "hard" by a major record label. The lyrics were written by Spice The Great (vocalist), the music was written by DJ Nazty-J and Puma PHT. The song had 3 different versions - this was the 3rd and final one. We played with different beats and samples and finally came up with this version. The final mix took about 12 hours. The engineer and producer (Puma PHT), Frank Nogueras, was 18 at the time. Both DJ Nazty-J (John Negron) and Spice The Great (Miguel Rivera) were 17. Special thanks to Jack "the guitarist" for his fine work - although he had no idea what rap was at the time...
