A rollicking little stride piece, with decent vocals and alright lyrics. Pleasant to listen to, and difficult to find unenjoyable, You Never Give Me Flowers will reaffirm your faith that the your life is worth living. I promise. Really. Story Behind the Song
Katie Fitzpatrick, a longstanding member of the Institute, sent a very deep and moving poem she had written to me. I read it, and was touched by the poem's thematic complexity and strong title. I then stripped the piece of any subtlety or emotional significance, and made a silly little stride tune out of it. Writing and playing the tune was easy, but recording the vocals were unbelievably difficult for me (as is made evident on the track presented to you today.) Still, I don't have many other compositions that are readily uploadable and wanted to get something on the site. Enjoy.
Lyrics
You never give me flowers
'Specially not anymore
You never give me flowers dear,
But aren't I the one you adore?
You never give me daisies
Just lima beans and kidney stew
Why can't you make with those flowers
So I can fall in love with you?
