Story Behind the Song
Walking along at 5:30 am, one night after busking,
I got to thinking about the legend of the THIEF in
the night...the first verse came out singing! I let
my muse guide me in the completion of this song, it
takes me to the HEART of the Matter when I sing it.
DeWayne Schunn, who recorded it, asked me if I knew the
song was in 7/8 time, and said he knew a conga player
who could play with that. Carlito Warrior only took 3
takes to get the track we used!
Lyrics
Like a thief in the night, Like a thief in the night
I will steal your deepest grief, I will steal your deepest grief
You will wake up in the light, You will wake up in the light
Feeling like some lovebug bit, Or that your were surely hit
By rays of sun shining bright, By rays of sun shining bright
Like a speck of mere dust, Like a speck of mere dust
Into a tree I do grow, Into a tree I do grow
As ever-living I must, As ever-living I must
Springing from a tiny seed, Whose tale we have learned to heed
As well as the cries of the just, As well as the cries of the just
Like a stone in a wall, Like a stone in a wall
I will roll one fine spring day, I will roll one fine spring day
When Glory bells give the call, When Glory bells give the call
The sound you will hear, Shall ring away all of your fear
Of going to that wedding ball, where nobody is refused at all
So, let's go to that wedding ball, where nobody gets refused at all
Let's go to that wedding ball, Yes, let's go to that wedding ball
