A sorrowful song with a wailing electric guitar and brooding piano in the rain. I remember what I can not be. And I cry. | MP3.com CD: Out of Darkness - buy it!

Story Behind the Song
'Storm of Tears' is a very spiritual song to me. If you can see the dragon in the storming rain... well, that's what I was trying to capture in the music. My sadness at being able to sense him but not touch him. A shadow I can't reach. And my loneliness at being stuck here rather than going with him.
Around the middle of recording the song, I just burst into tears. That's where it goes into the low wailing stuff with the guitar (at 1:26). There was supposed to be a melodic section there, but somehow when I got to it, I just made Wing wail in tears like I was. I decided to keep it in the final. That part is simplistic and not perfectly recorded, but to me it's the most powerful and expressive part of the song. An outflow of raw emotion that was not planned. I had to stop and record the rest of the song later.
This is the first song I've completed featuring my new guitar, a black Gibson SG named 'Wing'. This is a mic'd all tube setup. Recording a wholly analog device with a microphone is a new experience for me. And it didn't turn out to be as tough as I feared.
