Story Behind the Song
This song was written and sung at several weddings. Since there weren't too many good wedding songs out there I liked, I thought I'd write my own. It began very simply. What makes this song is the interplay of the harmonies of the duet -- just as two people's lives revolve around each other, so do the melodies.
I wanted to capture images of becoming one -- water, singin with one voice. I hoped to capture that this song was more than just any ol' wedding song, but a song of affirming to each other of "always being one together" in committed and loving relationship.
Lyrics
Verse 1
From this day forward we will share our lives,
Share our laughter, share our dreams.
In the presence of the Holy One,
Hand in hand we've just begun.
Verse 2
So on this holy day we pledge our love,
Sing our souls' song with one voice,
Like drops of water becoming one,
Hand in hand we've just begun.
Chorus
The love we share will always keep us one.
The bond we have will never be undone.
As long as we have Him in our hearts,
We'll know we'll never part.
Bridge
An amazing treasure,
We're God's gift to each other.
Not a blessing for us alone,
But for His Kingdom Come.
