Story Behind the Song
"Girl On The Wall" articulates what happens right after the murder of Lilith. Preston eliminates her because she is dispensable to him. He is a selfish man who is only concerned with his own goals and finds that Lily is no longer necessary to his plan. So he decides to dispose of her. Preston talks in the first verse of "Girl On The Wall" trying to convince Francis that Lilith committed suicide. Francis believes him. At the end, Francis says "I don't think you compare / the way you are, the way you were," reiterating what Preston said about her, but now with a different, more disturbing meaning. The last few lines "trying to ignore it / probably would turn things quite euphoric" is a narrator speaking to Francis (but of course, Francis cannot hear what he says.)
Lyrics
I dont think you can compare -
the way you are, the way you're there.
It aint right to look like that,
not in my house, not in my sight.
Little, pretty pictures of the girl on the wall,
Little, twisted pictures of a girl,
honey you're so messed up.
The foul wish was there.
Self-addiction took its toll
supple dream had ripped a hole
the size of death into your life
Over there, you had the knife.
The thought, it had lingered in her mind.
It ought to have wandered out to find
the end of its time to be here.
The girl, she was blind to tragedy.
All that she wanted was a choice;
And all that needed was a voice
just to guide her from lies.
The call that she bleeded from her soul,
soon he reached her face
the fall that freed her from her fear.
I dont think you can compare,
the way you are, the way you were.
It ain't right to look like that,
not on this floor, not in my house,
Little, whispered stories of the girl on the wall;
Little, funny memories of the girl - oh there's too much blood.
Trying to ignore it probably would turn things quite euphoric;
Now that you have turned your back, the man is laughing crackeddy crack
Blessed is the soul of Lily dear, the final tear.
