Story Behind the Song
The song is a prayer to deliver happiness to the unfortunate as well as a look at the materialism of the season. It is based on a few of my own tragedies and yet maintains my optimism as well.
On your first listen, you might not like the ideas expressed in association with Christmas, but I feel the subjects are more than true to the spirit of Christmas.
It is also an homage to the old classic carols that are still popular today.
Lyrics
Christmas eve,
and the rain is falling down
on our small suburban town
and I can't get to sleep
'cause I'm too defensive
and I'm apprehensive.
I can't stand to hear her weep.
Angels we have heard on high,
spread your mighty wings and fly,
on this silent night and show us all the way.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
smiling down on everything.
Say a prayer of hope for Christmas day.
Christmas eve,
under supermarket signs.
All the shoppers stand in lines.
Descention in the rows.
We're approaching midnight.
They turn off the blue light.
The store is just about to close.
Angels we have heard on high,
spread your mighty wings and fly,
on this silent night and show us all the way.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
smiling down on everything.
Say a prayer of hope for Christmas day.
And the celebration
halts its' jubilation
for the the loved ones we have lost.
Angels we have heard on high,
spread your mighty wings and fly,
on this silent night and show us all the way.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
smiling down on everything.
Say a prayer of hope for Christmas day.
Angels we have heard on high,
spread your mighty wings and fly,
on this silent night and show us all the way.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
smiling down on everything.
Say a prayer of hope for Christmas day.
Say a prayer for Christmas day.
