Story Behind the Song
This song started out with only the 2 lines of the chorus and the rest was built around it. Like some of my other songs, this one was a melding of different poems before I wrote the melody.
Lyrics
Throat parched, eyes dry
Lips cracked, skin on fire
Hands numb, stone feet
muscles taut, body weak
Heavy soul, heavy heart
I rock 'til I fall, then I break apart
So here I am in pieces
Fallen shattered on the floor
Flooding every niche and nook
With what I was before
I was stronger once and less afraid of what I cannot be
So now I clasp my fingers 'round
The dream that once was me
And with a heavy soul, heavy heart
I rock 'til I fall, then I break apart
Oh I seem to be so hollow, I can hear my voice echo
There's nobody around
Remembering the bitterness, emptiness, loneliness they seemed to be all I had found
I wrap my arms around me
and with a heavy soul, heavy heart
I rock 'til I fall, then I break apart
Broken bones ground by time
Deep in thought, aching mind
Bruised pride, spirit yields
To the sorrow my shadow feels
and with a heavy, heavy, heavy soul,
heavy heart
I rock, I rock, I rock rock rock 'til I fall
Then I break apart
