"The King"
Well the King hit the road
With a six string guitar
And a dream of going somewhere
Well the blues had him low
But his dream kept burning
A long way from Tupelo
Working on a, one night stand
An would-be singer and a four piece band
Working on a , one night stand
An unknown singer and a six piece band
From the wax came the cry of a hungry tiger
And the Colonel said: "That's my boy!"
They call her the rat, of the band
She's just a normal woman looking for a music man
She works on her job, the whole lousy day
Night time she begins to live
When that music starts to play
Dot dot da da
Dot dot da da
The folks in this town
Won't give her the time
They think what girl is doing
Is just a low-down crime
She won't have a fit
About what they think
She knows they were on their backs
When they got those lovely minks
Dot dot da da
Dot dot da da
Then they walked hand-in-hand
from the dark to fire
A long playing house of joy
Sharks on the move
Circle around
No time to think
You need a drink
Here's to you kid
You're on your way
Try one of these
Fly high today
Well the King lost his soul in a back stage basement
And he thought that he was flying
Well the blues had him low
And his dream stopped burning
A Long Way from Tupelo
How on earth could he have known
A King sits lonely on a silent throne
Lonely King of all the land
thirty-two musicians on a one night stand
(Concert Announcements)
"Ladies and gentlemen, the King!"
"Thank you ladies and gentlemen. Thank you!- My Bandleader, Steffen Presley. Thank you.- God Bless Everybody!"
They call her the rat
The rat of the band
She's just a lonely woman looking for a music man
She works on her job, the whole lousy day
Night time she begins to live
When that music starts to play
Dat dat da da
Dat dat da da
She won't love for gold, your chain or your ring
Something 'bout those music men
Makes her hear begin to sing
She knows they'll move on
Where other girls scream
But tonight, the night is right
And she's got her dream
She's singing
Dat dat a da
dat dat a da
dat dat a da
dad-----da-----da---
Momma!
Well the King left the road
Wrapped in death's cold shadow
Broken dreams of self-destruction
More than ten thousand fans
Left a gleaming teardrop
Then searched for another joy
Shooting stars light up the sky
The world seems brighter as they pass us by
Hearts will break and screams will die
Listen to the thunder of his last goodbye.
Working on a one night stand.
