    Story Behind the Song
"The guitar and piano in this song are played with perfection." Fredrik Cole: Trax In Space

Adelaide Pollard was forty when she was trying unsuccessfully to raise support to go to Africa as a missionary. She desperately asked God why she had such a burden for the needs of that continent when He did not provide her with the means to go. It was during this time of discouragement that Adelaide attended a small prayer meeting where a woman prayed, Lord, it doesnt matter what you bring into our lives, just have Your way with us.

That night she went home and read the story of Jeremiahs visit to the potters house. Later that evening she wrote this hymn. Perhaps, she reasoned, my questioning of Gods will shows a flaw in my life. So God decided to break me, as the potter broke the defective vessel, and then to mold my life again in His own pattern.

It was during a very difficult time that this song began to make an impact in my life. At the time I was going through a considerable amount of tough life changes that I did not invite and neither did I want! However, they were sitting right there in front of me declaring that they were inescapable.

The problem was not in regards to whether-or-not they would happen. It was inevitable that my life was going to change dramatically. The question became: would I keep my heart with God? It was beginning to appear to me that when I placing my life in Gods hands may have been a mistake. To the best of my ability I had dedicated my life to the service of Him apparently to be rewarded with the terrible mess that I now found myself in.

One morning in church the praise team played this song with slow, picking acoustic guitars and nice harmonies. At first I was intrigued with the music, but as the words came forth I was convinced that I must allow god to have His way in my life. I had to trust Him for the future, knowing that my destiny was in good hands.

A little later I got by myself to pick out the chords for myself and I came up with this arrangement. It has been put together in a way that recreates that moment when I was so moved by the praise hymn. It starts off with light picking acoustic guitars as the vocals by Vanessa, Dave and Laurie subtly enter. Instruments such as bass B3 and light drums gradually enter in to create fill out the song as it progresses. I am sure that it will move you as it once did me.

    Lyrics
    Have Thine Own Way

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own Way!
Thou art the potter; I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own Way!
Search me and try me, Mater today!
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,
As in Thy presence humbly I bow.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own Way!
Wounded and weary, help me, I pray!
Power, all power, surely is Thine!
Touch me and heal me, Savior divine!

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own Way!
Hold o'er my being absolute sway!
Fill with Thy Spirit till all shall see
Christ only, always, living in Me!
