	This little cavatina is an imitation of Italian opera style. It could almost pass for Bellini. The autograph resides in the British Museum (Ass. MS. 29802). The stage directions are Helene alone: sadly walks to the window, opens it, looks out, shuts it, and sings.
	Story Behind the Song Schubert, like most musicians of his time, knew that the surest path regular income was from contracts for new scores at the opera house. Unfortunately, his powerful melodic gift didn't allow him to write throw away melodies or to infuse music with the drama necessary to sustain a whole opera.
