Story Behind the Song
The people of Trinidad welcomed the band
into their huts on that warm summer day. The
fish were jumping, the girls were dancing, the
band ate and drank and played festive
sounds into the warm breeze.
Lyrics
Trinidad
Well, hello, hello, hello
Will you greet me when the morning comes
You start your day in an offhand way
Well, you think that life is funny, child
You'll never know the value 'til you pass my way
And I've had my say
And you'll never know the way I feel about you now
And you'll never know right from wrong
And you'll never know the way I feel
They follow you up with a big brown bag
They're beside you every step of the way
There'll be hundreds of parties
They'll all be there
All your friends and aquaintances smile and say
"Gee, it's nice to be here with you today"
And they toast you and sing to the holiday
But Sally Parker, alias Shark
Will always put you in
Where were you when the clock struck five 'til nine
The fire in the place makes your face glow and shine
I remember your face 'cause you turned me around
I remember your face 'cause you cut me down to size
The people, indeed, they will stand and stay
While the boys in the band in the, hey
While the boys in the band see her walk away
All your friends and aquaintances smile and say
"Gee, it's nice to be here with you today"
And they toast you and sing to the holiday
But Sally Parker, alias Shark
Will always put you
