Story Behind the Song
I used to have a lover who was very shy. Only
came at night. I felt so used and abused. My love life was a sight. Written in chalk on the workshop floor over 2 or 3 days. Two different recordings produced, both in the Kiva. This second version completed in about three days.
Lyrics
Midnight Bandit
1.
You don't want my mornin' kisses, makes me wanna cry,
You won't have no daytime lovin' no matter how I try.
This leavin' alone that you've left me with,
darlin' I don't know if I can stand it.
Feels like my poor achin' heart
got locked away in a trunk
and hauled off in the dark,
by the Midnight Bandit.
2.
I should've learned the first time 'round
you'd treat me just this way,
Love me like a fire in darkness
turn to ice by day.
This leavin' alone that I'm left here with,
it's surely not the way that I had planned it.
Feels like my poor achin' heart
got locked away in a trunk
and hauled off in the dark,
by the Midnight Bandit.
chorus
Oh, the Midnight Bandit
will plunder your love and be gone.
Kisses melt your resistance
then fade all too soon with the dawn.
3.
But I've no choice, your touch holds me
a prisoner to the night.
I long for darkness and those times
you always treat me right.
You bring me the fire of your lovin',
no flame so hot
no matter how they fanned it.
Feels like my poor achin' heart
got locked away in a trunk
and hauled off in the dark,
by the Midnight Bandit.
