Story Behind the Song
I wrote "Let Me Love You", and sang it, and I began to question it. When God put my commitment to the test, I failed. I began to wonder if I really was able to love God - I realized that I was incapable of loving Him without some help from Him. So then, if I failed, was it really my fault? Or was it because God didn't help me enough?
This song was not the end - "Your Grace Meets Our Needs" and "You're Amazing" were written after God answered my questions.
This song is written mostly in a pentatonic scale - the music came long before the words, and the only reason I am able to play piano on it is because, except for the bridge, I only use black keys.
Lyrics
Well I guess that I was wrong,
I can't love if left alone,
'Cause to love you on my own
Cannot be.
If you take your love away,
Then my love will surely fade,
I can only give away
What you give me.
Oh I want to live for you,
But there's nothing I can do,
'Cause if I try without you,
It's no use.
Oh I need a change of heart,
But I don't know where to start,
What exactly is my part?
Every thought and every dream,
Innocent though it may seem,
Is a choice I make to be
Who I am.
Every moment must be yours,
If you really are my Lord,
What I'm asked to do is more
Than I can.
Oh I want to live for you,
But there's nothing I can do,
'Cause if I try without you,
It's no use.
Oh I need a change of heart,
But I don't know where to start,
What exactly is my part?
All I want is to be filled with your Spirit,
And if that Spirit really lives in man,
Lord, here I am!
Oh I want to live for you,
But there's nothing I can do,
'Cause if I try without you,
It's no use.
Oh I need a change of heart,
But I don't know where to start,
What exactly is my part?
