Hope remembers a shared childhood scheme "to build a treehouse that could reach up into the clouds above." She recounts her inner struggle to either reach for the lofty hights imagined, or find security in keeping her feet on "solid" ground. As adults, David and Hope reflect, finding strength in what might seem opposing childhood perspectives. | MP3.com CD: Fields Far Away - ACT ONE - buy it!

Lyrics
HOPE: There was a time when
roses were red and skies were blue.
Dividing lines when I had to choose
between the two.
DAVID: There was a sound
when I heard the clouds calling
you and I.
We're Heaven bound
but some say that Heaven is...much too high
HOPE: ...much too high.
Especially for people just three feet high. Well these boys were willing
to cast their dreams,
like nets on a ocean of carefree schemes.
DAVID: and something inside said
our destiny lies, to build a great
stairway right up to the sky...so
very high...so very..
HOPE: secretly I believed you could...
but not I.
Secretly believed should
...I cried.
All was quiet in this place
as I knelt upon the ground
so warm and tender.
Felt the earth flow gently
through my fingers,
so secure asking surrender...
should I listen...should I consider?
DAVID: If only I were stronger.
If I could be like you.
To hold the world within my hands,
and not some distant view.
HOPE: I'll only plant these seeds
of possibility,
see that's the best that I can do..
see I'm not strong enough
...strong enough
BOTH: If only I were stronger,
if I could be like you...
HOPE: I'd plant them way up there instead,
in flowing fields of blue...
