Story Behind the Song
Motivated by the music of John Lee Hooker and Lightnin' Hopkins. The lyrics, inspired by a three week road trip away from my honey, should not need explanation. Written in about one hour. This solo version recorded in the Kiva...two takes, doing guitar and vocal together. Harp overdub.
Lyrics
Ain't No Pistol In My Pocket
You must be a dancer, you know all the moves.
I ain't no great romancer, but you got me in the mood.
chorus
And this ain't no pistol in my pocket, mama,
I'm just glad to see your lovin' smile.
This ain't no blackjack in my bluejeans, baby,
don't you know I just love your lovin' style.
You must be a Voodoo Queen, 'cause there's magic in your touch.
That's the only way I can explain why I need your love so much,
chorus
You must be a gambler, you stretch all the rules.
I ain't no birddog rambler, but you know I'll be your fool,
chorus
