Yet another spritely song. I'll post the lyrics to this one and you may judge for yourself. |

Story Behind the Song
I view music as a work in progress. You may listen and think that these all sound very free verse and unfinished, which would be as they are intended. They may change along the way, but they are here now. I used to be such a perfectionist, but did nothing. I'd rather 'scratch the surface of greatness' than to do nothing. Thanks for listening.
Lyrics
(C) 2000 Kevin John Stanley
Expatriate Anthem
Spend all my days, living holidays
the passing time and reasons crime
so cold, the empty words we say;
and the passengers, their heart all
trampled down and trodden
in between the lines we draw around our heart
&if I heard the news I'd read it once aloud and laugh oh the cacophenous laughter
c: & would you say that we were nothing
but our own worst enemies
and would you say that we are something
that they'll never take away
though we try, they'll never harm us
lo they wonder, just what we're up to
and we are thinking expatriation
And are you happy saying those words
that you'd never long to hear
all the thoughts that have come to pass
only in your deepest fears
oh, they're only in your deepest fears
with the crime of the state
in a whole other time
and the hourly losses
and the burial face is on
and the whole in the head
and the heart and the mind
and the blood runs down
misery is all we've found
C: and it's supposed to change they said
but do you believe them?
as they lie smiling in your face
and everything will have its proper time
and we will only scratch the surface
of greatness
dig a ditch for all the discontent
in their palm they place us
if only I could end, this fickle game
if only I could feel my heart again
